What is Dengue?
Dengue is a viral fever that spreads through the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. This mosquito bites mostly during the day, especially in the morning and afternoon. Four different dengue viruses infect humans. Understanding dengue symptoms and taking proper preventive measures is very important because severe or hemorrhagic dengue can even threaten life.
What are the Statistics of Dengue Disease ?
Dengue is a viral infection that is transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected mosquito. According to WHO, almost half of the world’s population is now at risk of dengue and an estimated 100-400 million infections occur every year.
How does Dengue Occur ?
The Aedes mosquito breeds in clean stagnant water, such as flower pots, coolers, and AC trays, and usually bites during the day.
Sudden high fever
Pain behind the eyes
Pain in the bones and joints (Breakbone Fever)
Reddish rash on the body
Nausea or vomiting
Weakness
Bleeding from the nose, gums (symptoms of severe dengue)
What Tests are needed to Diagnose Dengue?
NS1 Antigen Test – In the first 5 days
IgM and IgG Antibody Test – To identify the virus
CBC Test – Platelet count and hematocrit are seen
1.Wear long-sleeved clothes to reduce mosquito bites.
2.Apply mosquito repellent during the day and evening.
3.Protect children by using mosquito nets.
4.Keep your house and surroundings clean every day.
5.Wash vases, AC trays, and coolers regularly.
